In their first move as a private company, Hydro One puts corporate greed ahead of people by becoming a shareholder in a coal-fired generating station. Ontario has banned coal fire generation to protect air quality.
This purchase undermines the Liberals' stated goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs).
The Ontario Energy Ministry seems to suggest that the air pollution from the Avista coal plant is no problem, as long as the coal is being burned in Montana.
This is ridiculous. Air pollution doesn’t respect national boundaries. The climate crisis is a global problem. It is simply wrong for the Wynne Liberals to allow this proceed.
This is a bad move for Ontario and for our planet. Send a message to Ontario Energy Minister, Glenn Thibeault, to oppose this deal and have your voice heard below.
