More highways won’t solve gridlock. Public transit will.

The Ford government is starting construction on their sprawl-inducing mega-project, Highway 413. Experts have warned that this highway will only fuel more sprawl, more congestion and more pollution, while destroying the wetlands that protect us from flooding and the farmland that feeds us.

More highways won’t get Ontario moving. Our communities need two-way, all-day GO train and intercity bus service. They need more bike-share programs and e-bike infrastructure, and dedicated bike and transit lanes that help them get where they need to go safely. They need more options for getting around – not another highway through the Greenbelt.

It’s time for Doug Ford to abandon Highway 413 and invest in solutions that will actually reduce gridlock and make life more affordable while safeguarding the nature that protects us and the farmland that feeds us.

Ontario Greens are demanding that the government drop their plans for Highway 413 and invest in public transit that will actually get Ontario moving.
