Our farmland and natural heritage are essential to our quality of life, economic prosperity, and resilience to climate change.

The proposed Highway 413 will cut through 2000 acres of prime farmland, criss-cross two major west GTA river systems, damage 75 wetlands, and cut across 85 waterways.

It will also add 17.4M tonnes of emissions by 2050 and 700,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

To top it off, this highway will likely cost taxpayers $10 Billion to save just 30-60 seconds of commute time.

We could reduce traffic congestion drastically by paying the tolls for truckers on the 407, getting them off the 401 and onto an underused piece of infrastructure. That would actually have an immediate impact on traffic congestion.

Highway 413 is a waste of money and an environmental disaster.

Tell Doug Ford to cancel Highway 413 and get truckers onto the 407.

Dear Premier Ford,

I am deeply concerned about the proposed Highway 413 plan and feel it is a waste of money that risks our food security and harms our natural heritage.

This is a project shelved just a few years ago because the GTA West Corridor Advisory Panel Report said “a proposed highway in the GTA West corridor is not the best way to address changing transportation needs.”

Your planned Highway 413 will cut through prime farmland, crisscrossing two major west GTA river systems. It will also add 17.4M tonnes of emissions by 2050 and 700,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

Instead of building the 413 you could pay the tolls for truckers to use the 407 directly south of the proposed highway route and make a noticeable impact on traffic congestion today.

The 407 sits underused while people commuting on the 401 continue to be bogged down by the thousands of trucks that use it every day.

Premier, I’m asking you to make the sensible, climate-conscious, practical choice. Get trucks off the 401 today and you’ll improve life for millions of Ontarians.
