The Conservatives have taken their anti-climate agenda to a new level.

Bill 4 has become law, making it free to pollute and cancelling Ontario’s emissions targets.

Mike Schreiner, Ontario’s first Green MPP, vowed to stand up for the climate every day at Queen’s Park. So after the vote, he rose in the legislature to call for an emergency debate on climate action.

But the PC government blocked his request. They don’t even want to discuss the biggest crisis facing humanity.

“I’m shocked, but I won’t give up on leaving a liveable planet for my daughters and ensuring that Ontario is part of the solution, not the problem,” said Mike Schreiner.

Dear Premier Ford and Minister Phillips,

For the sake of our health, our economy and future generations, I urge you to give up your anti-climate agenda. Your decision to cancel pollution pricing and erase Ontario’s only climate plan with nothing to replace it is short-sighted, reckless, and morally irresponsible.

In the last few months you have: 
- Buried renewable energy;
- Slashed environmental initiatives;
- Made it free to pollute; and
- Fought a national carbon price that would put money in people’s pockets.

I am also appalled that you chose to block MPP Schreiner’s call for an emergency debate on climate change.

I do not support these decisions. A government cannot call itself ‘for the people’ if it has no plan to address the greatest threat facing people.

The world’s top scientists have told us we're in a race against time and need to start drastically reducing emissions by 2020. And yet you are putting ideology ahead of evidence and ignoring the climate crisis. You are even ignoring market-based solutions from Nobel Prize winning economists that would lower GHG pollution, put money in people’s pockets and make Ontario prosper in the $26 trillion clean economy.

If pollution is free, people will do more of it. We need pollution pricing.

We cannot shut our eyes to what is happening. Our grandchildren will ask us why we did not do more.

Respectfully, I ask that you:
- Listen to experts and put a price on pollution;
- End the frivolous lawsuit with the federal government;
- Support jobs and investment in the $26 trillion clean economy;
- Stop the dangerous campaign to block climate action;
- Show real leadership that makes Ontario a climate leader, not a climate offender
